The primary mission of the Superyacht Group GBR is dedicated to driving Superyacht visitation, delivering regional economic outcomes and supporting members services.

Who are we?

The Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef is a non-profit industry consortium promoting the Great Barrier Reef from Gladstone, the Whitsundays and Cairns to the Torres Strait as a premier superyacht destination for cruising, touring, refit, maintenance, training, and charter.

The Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef’s aim is to provide complimentary information on all our stunning region has to offer, from things to see and do, through to first class services to ensure their visit here is exceptional.

Kathleen Ferguson

Chair

KATHLEEN FERGUSON is the General Manager of Trinity Fire Services which provides fire equipment and safety services to the Superyacht Industry and has been operating in the specialist area since 1987.

Kathleen has been a SYGGBR executive committee member since 2006. She represents the service sector of the industry, holds fire equipment service qualifications and has a vast knowledge of legislation and regulations pertaining to the Marine Industry. Kathleen also has a Bachelor of Business Management majoring in Marketing and Business Communication and offers a high degree of participation and commitment to SYGGBR.

She also has experience with Business Planning & Strategic Development and enjoys being involved in the dynamic and challenging environment which is Superyachts.

Andrew Rokstad

Vice Chair

ANDREW ROKSTAD has worked in the Marine Industry since 2003, predominantly with commercial passenger vessels. Andrew was a captain on vessels 24m-35m for 11 years, 3 years as Operations & Maintenance Manager for a fleet of 4 vessels moving up to General Manager of Operations. During this time he fostered close working relationships with local shipyards, suppliers and service providers who regularly service Superyachts visiting the Cairns region. In 2018 he became the newly appointed Marina Manager for Ports North which has exceedingly increased his knowledge of the marina facilities and services provided.

A vast majority of his time is spent liaising with captains, crew and agents. With his previous and additional experience within the marine sector and current role Andrew has a great understanding of the needs and expectations of the visiting Superyachts Captains and Crew.

Andrew Wagner

Treasurer

ANDREW WAGNER has over 35 years working in the Project and General Management in the Marine Industry servicing Defence, Leisure Marine, Oil & Gas and Power Generation sectors. Andrew is currently Business Development Manager at Tropical Reef Shipyard, the largest capacity yard in Northern Australia and the West Pacific region. Our clients include Navy, Us Army, US Navy, paramilitary groups. and commercial entities. Andrew served as General Manager of United Engineering Services Oman (UES) and Al Masaood Marine and Engineering in Abu Dhabi where he had full operational responsibility for Maintenance Tenders & Contracts, Business Development and provided project management and services for Defence, Leisure Marine and industrial repair/refit services across the GCC and Malaysia. Andrew commenced his career with International Marine in Melbourne where he spent 20 years designing and building white boats prior to his move to the Middle East. Andrew has a Post Graduate Degree in Management, he has been a Member of ABBRA – American Boat Builders and Repairers Association, National Marine Safety Council various Business groups. Andrew’s favourite pastimes are family and boating.

Virginia Hammond

Secretary

VIRGINIA HAMMOND brings to the group a wealth of destination marketing and tourism experience, cruise logistics and event management. Virginia has previously worked as Sales & Events Manager in the marine sector, been an Agent for two Marlin fishing charter vessels and Director of Sales & Operations in the helicopter and fixed wing aviation industry. During her appointment as Product Manager with Coral Expeditions, Virginia developed and implemented itineraries to South East Asia, the South Pacific, PNG, Raja Ampat, the Kimberley, Tasmania and NZ whilst managing port logistics and shore excursions.

Carol Harris

Business Administrator

CAROL HARRIS was previously a board member for 2 years and in Oct 2022 stood down in order to take on the offered Business Administration role with the group. With a total of 10 years in the industry as a crew member and a further 12 years working with Nigel Beatty from Superyacht Logistics as a Japanese speaking agent onboard vessels in Japan, Carol has a wealth of
experience and knowledge in the Superyacht Industry.

Carol is now co-owner of SYL Japan and majority owner of SYL Australia.
In 2018 Carol co-founded Great Barrier Reef Yacht Supplies, the only Provisioning & Parts business in Cairns aimed exclusively at the Superyacht sector.

Executive Committee

Rosie Blacklock

ROSIE BLACKWOOD is a results-driven professional with over six years of experience aligned with the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College. Passionate about providing tailored solutions for clients in defence, government, private sector, and not-for-profit spaces, Rosie played a pivotal role in securing a successful bid for the Pacific Maritime Training Services tender, injecting over $30 million into the Cairns economy. With a keen understanding of diverse industries, Rosie is committed to promoting Cairns’ products and services. Her proven track record in managing partnerships and contributing to significant economic growth reflects her dedication to excellence and strategic collaboration in the maritime industry.

Jim Bradley

After 10 years working for major national Telecommunications companies, Jim moved to Cairns in ‘94 to start his own Telco and IT Dealership in Cairns. The company delivered business communication solutions and was ranked in the top 5 Telstra dealers nationally for several years. This allowed Jim to focus on developing his own channel program on behalf of Telstra under a new entity call TBS Distribution. After a 14-month transition process in early 2021 the company changed its branding to Edge.ROV to focus on autonomous vehicle technologies. Having already flown UAV’s himself personally for 5 years, and after plenty of research, Jim realised the Autonomous vehicle industry was one of the next big business growth opportunities. EdgeROV now imports and distributes Aerial Drones, Underwater Drones and Autonomous Command and
Control systems for collision avoidance vessels.

Sherie Evans

SHERIE EVANS is the General Manager of Auriga Pilots, a company who provide pilotage services to all vessels including superyachts, over 70m, in the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait.

Sherie started working for the company in 2006 as an accounts and admin assistant. She moved to Thursday Island to assist with running the TI base for 12 months in 2008. In 2009, Sherie moved back to Brisbane and joined the Operations Team, scheduling pilots and vessels, and was promoted to the Senior Operations Position in 2013. In 2020, Sherie was promoted to Manager Network Optimisation, working closely with the GM, Marine Pilots and Senior Management. Sherie was promoted to General Manager in September 2021, becoming the first female General Manager in the company’s history. She has a Diploma in Maritime Business Management, and has recently enrolled in a new course entitled The Women and Leadership Advanced Leadership Program.

Kerry Hipgrave

KERRY HIPGRAVE is passionate about the Superyacht and Marine Industry, 7.5yrs in the role of Chief Stewardess aboard 60m – 70m+ Superyachts overseas in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Kerry knows the quality of service visiting Superyachts and their guests expect, having served many celebrity and VIP guests such as Bill Gates, U2 and the Rolling Stones. Since returning to Cairns to raise a family, Kerry has worked as a yacht broker for four years, spent a year overseeing refit, repair and maintenance on yachts, spent two years on the SYGGBR Executive Committee previously, two years running her own marine business CY Marine selling gyro stabilisers and marine equipment, and is currently working as Sales Rep for ship chandlery, Nautical Supplies.

Dr Andrew Lewis

DR ANDREW LEWIS is a marine scientist and mariner with a Ph.D. in coral reef ecology from JCU, and the founder of the Coral Sea Foundation.

He managed the ecotourism activities aboard the expedition vessel True North for over a decade, surveying reefs and collaborating with Indigenous people across a wide variety of tropical locations, from the Great Barrier Reef to Raja Ampat, West Papua, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
An expert underwater photographer and engaging public speaker, Andy’s passion for the reefs, islands, and people of the Coral Sea region drives his vision for marine conservation and sustainable reef management.

Christina Prince

CHRISTINA PRINCE represents Major Yacht Services as Cairns’ & FNQ agent. Christina has a background that spans 5-Star hotels and 7-Star yachting, Christina is known to throw a few tri-weekly parties on behalf of international millionaires in the most remote and high-profile locations in the world. With a smooth hand she can co-ordinate the easy running of land to yacht logistics.
Now based in Cairns, Far North Queensland. Christina now looks forward to putting Cairns on the map as the ‘it’ destination of the southern hemisphere
