Here’s a little background information about Oatley Fine Wine Merchants:
Bob Oatley established Rosemount Estate in 1969 in the Upper Hunter Valley of New South Wales. He aimed to create the best family winery in Australia – and he achieved it. The Rosemount name became synonymous with quality wine.
In 2001 Rosemount was sold to a public company. The family’s commitment and passion for the wine industry has re-emerged in OFWM, based on a partnership of wines from family-held vineyards, premium growers across the country and key brand partners from Australia and around the world. OFWM is not a recreation but a reinforcement of the family’s on-going commitment to the Australian wine industry.
Yachting has always been part of the family as the favoured weekend recreation but, in a similar vein to the commitment to wine and tourism, Bob Oatley was never one to hold back.
While the Admiral’s Cup is the premier team yachting event, the world’s greatest individual blue water classic is the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. In 2005 with his super-maxi Wild Oats XI, Bob Oatley secured the world record for the fastest time and has now won this highly respected regatta eight times.
The Oatley family are also a sponsor of the Australian Olympic Sailing Team which proudly returned from the London 2012 Olympics with three gold medals. Family was always Bob’s primary focus and family revolves around all that the Oatley family do today.
One of the world’s great tourism developments, Hamilton Island, a premier destination on the famous Great Barrier Reef, is the latest piece of Australia to respond to the Oatley family focus.
Development in tune with the environment and the sensitivity of the Great Barrier Reef has seen a rebirth of this family friendly tourist destination with a variety of award-winning world-class accommodation options and activities.
In both OFWM and Hamilton Island, three generations of the Oatley family are involved in all day-to-day activities and running of the businesses. Revolving around recreation, wine and tourism, all businesses are approached by the family with a passion
